In partnership with DAC Beachcroft, LegalTech in Leeds hosted an insightful session featuring a fireside chat between David Williams of DAC Beachcroft and Ben Taylor of Verisk, moderated by Susan Ford from DAC Beachcroft. This session offered a unique look at the long-standing collaboration between DAC Beachcroft, an international law firm, and Verisk, a global data analytics provider that acquired Automated Information Systems, the LegalTech firm behind Bail, a pioneering claims product. In this article, we've summarised some of the main themes from the session.

Customer-Centric Innovation - Both speakers underscored that customer outcomes were the central focus of this partnership. From the early stages, strong personal connections and shared values were essential in establishing a foundation of trust. Their collaboration was driven not only by technology but by the 'chemistry' and shared commitment to innovation.

Data and Digital Transformation - The conversation highlighted how data is transforming personal injury claims handling in the motor industry. With margins shrinking and complexities rising, the need for technology-driven efficiencies is incredibly important. David Williams explained how AIS's digital platform allows for streamlined, customer-friendly interactions, a critical feature when data reveals that over 34% of claims-related communication occurs outside traditional business hours.

Navigating Startup and Law Firm Dynamics - The discussion delved into the unique dynamics between a large law firm and a startup. Ben Taylor shared insights from his journey with AIS, emphasising the importance of choosing partners who are interested in mutual growth rather than purely financial returns. For LegalTech founders, finding partners committed to a joint journey is crucial for success. DAC Beachcroft has a commitment to innovation, highlighted by the launch of its Innovation Lab in 2016.

Looking Ahead The session also touched on the role of generative AI, the future impact of electric and self-driving vehicles, and the emerging e-scooter category. These advancements are expected to redefine insurance claims, presenting new opportunities and challenges for the legal and tech industries alike.

This discussion was a powerful reminder of the value that aligned goals, strong partnerships, and a shared vision for innovation can bring to both industries.
